Torphins Lawn Bowling Club

Torphins Bowling club is situated close to the public park, on Bridge Crecent. It was founded in 1886, which, even for my mathematically challenged brain, is over 120 years ago, with the grounds being provided, as is the same today, on rent to the club by Learney Estates. The club still continues to provide enjoyment and recreation for the club members, visitors and local competing bowling clubs.

The current President for 2009 , Jim Carnie, says that member numbers have increased in the last year, and they are looking forward to an enjoyable season this year.

The club have regular game sessions on Tuesday Nights at 7 pm and Thursday Afternoons at 2 pm. Medal and inter-club games being held on Wednesdays.

Members can gain entry and play anytime on an informal basis. Visiting players are welcome, and even beginners may borrow bowls to gain an introduction to the gentle art, although smooth, flat soled footwear is required.

Torphins Champions Win out

The North East champion of champions bowling pairs competition for 2009, held in Stonehaven, was won by Dick Franks and Alex Thomson of Torphins Bowling club. They beat opponents J Paterson and R McDougal of Marykirk by 19 - 13.

Thursday 21th May, 2009

Why not come along and see for yourself how this pleasant sport can pass a pleasant afternoon or evening.

The club particularly wishes to increase the number of lady members, to bolster the competitive line up.
