Torphins Men's Club is surely a unique organisation. Although its early history is now obscure ,the first meetings took place just after the end of the Second World War, making it a remarkably long lived organisation.
Societies changes over the years and so has the Men's Club, but its basic aims have remained the same: To encourage and Foster Fellowship, Knowledge and Recreation In this it has been successful and members will testify to the forging of new friendships, while newcomers to Torphins have welcomed the opportunity to meet new people and integrate with the community. The Men's Club meets in the Learney Arms Hotel on the last Tuesday of every month from September through to April. The first meeting of the new session is on Tuesday 28th September 2010. The Programme consists of talks (always interesting) on a variety of topics, discussions, visits and meals, all maintaining the ideals of Friendship, Fellowship and Fun. New Members are always welcome. The Programme for session 2010-2011 is being prepared , and so far talks have been arranged on subjects such as Captain Kidd (infamously regarded as a pirate), The Help for Heroes charity, supporting Servicemen injured in theatres of war. A visit to the National Hyperbaric Centre in Aberdeen is scheduled for 2011 as is a Ladies evening at the Finzean Farm. Membership is not solely confined to Torphin residents but is open to those from surrounding areas. For more information contact Eric Day (Tel : 013398 82307) |
