Born in Torphins, Aberdeenshire, Neil started his international career at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, unfortunately coming home empty handed, however he won Bronze in the 200m I.M four years later on home turf at the 1986 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games.
In addition to his Commonwealth wins Neil also claimed two Bronze medals at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles in the 200m I.M and the 4x200m relay. He is also noted for winning Gold in the 200m I.M at the World Student Games in 1985 and winning Silver at the European Championships in 1987 as part of the British team.
Neil ended his career in 1988 after the Seoul Olympic Games to concentrate in a career in engineering.

Katie Sadleir, born: August 14, 1964 in Torphins.
Catherine Anne Grant (Katie) Sadleir. She competed for New Zealand at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles with her sister Lynette Sadleir. In the Women's Solo Katie finished 37th and in the Women's Duet Katie and Lynette finished 12th.
At the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh Katie won the Bronze medal in the Women's Solo.
She was the Assistant Chef de Mission for the New Zealand team at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Vancouver.

Future Champions
Womens British Junior Alpine Team members,eighteen year old Alex Tilley from Torphins, has impressed in the recent Citizen FIS Race series held at Solda in Italy, Dec 2011. In the four race series of two Slaloms and two Giant Slaloms, Alex finished 1st and 2nd in the Giant Slalom races. The results represent her best FIS points scored and also prove encouraging for the rest of the season. Alex,with 30 points, presently lies 10th of 34 competators of the FIS-CIT Arnold Lunn World Cup
