Lundin makes Torphins discoveryTorphins has expanded along with the energy exploration and development industry in North East Scotland, another interesting and little known fact is that there is a section of the North Sea licensed for Oil and Gas exploration, named "Torphins"Lundin Petroleum's exploration well 21/8-4 in the Torphins prospect is being marked as an oil and gas discovery. The well, which was spudded on June 20 2008 by Transocean semisubmersible GSF Arctic II, was drilled directionally to test the eastern part of the prospect in the central sector of the UK North Sea and penetrated a Palaeocene reservoir sandstone section with a gross logged oil and gas column of about 30 feet (9 m). Well 21/8-4 and geologic sidetrack 21/8-4Z reached total depths of 8177 ft and 7250ft respectively. Wells 21/8-4 & sidetrack 21/8-4Z are located 12km north of the Lundin operated Scolty discovery drilled in late 2007. Both the main well and sidetrack encountered oil and gas in the Palaeocene sandstone reservoir. The Torphins prospect is defined by a 3D seismic anomaly. The results of the well will now be analysed to determine the commerciality of the discovery. | |

| Based on this result, the drilling program will proceed with a further directional well from the same surface location to test the western part of the prospect. CEO of partner Revus Energy, Harald Vabo, said, "Although the discovery of oil and gas in the Torphins well is encouraging, the length of oil column which sits below a gas cap, is less than we had hoped for. However, we believe that the western part of the prospect has the capacity to hold oil volumes in commercially viable quantities and is the focus of the next stage of our drilling operation." The Torphins prospect is located in license P. 1107, which is operated by Lundin Petroleum with 40 percent interest. Partners are Revus Energy (E&P) Ltd. with 50 percent interest and Challenger Minerals (North Sea) Ltd. with 10 percent interest. | |
